Tkachuk Dealt to Blues

March 13, 2001

The Blues and Coyotes avoided the middleman (Philadelphia) and made a deal that makes sense for both clubs. The Blues traded Michal Handzus, Ladislav Nagy, Michael Taffe and a 1st round pick to Phoenix for Keith Tkachuk.

On the surface it may seem that Cliff Fletcher didn't get enough. But this is a great deal for both teams. The Coyotes get one of the best young two-way centers in hockey. He's big. He's fast. And he will fill the nets, kill penalties and throw some hits. Nagy will be be great acquisition as well. Incredibly skilled, he will be a great addition. Taffe was the Blues 1st round pick last season and at 19 is still a long term prospect.

Tkachuk is probably a safer bet for the Blues than Lindros. He is a fantastic power forward who doesn't come with the same baggage Lindros does.
