Fantasy Hockey at the Quarterpole - The Bad

The Bad

Fantasy Impact

Mario's Injury Woes  Mario Lemieux has been a disappointment for the Penguins. Hip surgery has forced him to miss a bunch of games and he'll probably miss a lot more before the season's through
Stanley Cup Finalists Struggling If it wasn't for a shutout streak by Patrick Roy, both Colorado and New Jersey would be sitting out of a playoff spot. While the season is only a quarter done, this should be setting off alarm bells.
Olympic Impact Will Peter Forsberg come back? Why won't Patrick Roy be playing? Will the Slovaks, Germans, and other players from teams in Preliminary Round have their players released? And if they do what impact will that have on Fantasy Teams?
Injuries, injuries, injuries Start with Forsberg and Lemieux, then add Pavel and Valeri Bure, Jaromir Jagr (he's back now but still hurting) and Mike Modano's nagging back injury and you'll see that the superstars are still falling like flies. For more on this check out our 4-part series on injuries.
Struggling goalies Ron Tugnutt, Manny Fernandez, Felix Potvin, and Olaf Kolzig were all being counted on by their teams and they haven't performed so far.
Ray Ferraro - league worst +/- An absolutely ugly -15 in in only 16 games. To top it off he only has 9 points in those games.
Those awful Dallas Stars Wow, after 22 games the Stars stand tied with 3 other teams for the last playoff spot. And this is a team many picked to challenge the Red Wings for top spot in the West.
Faltering Flyers The team may be looking to change coaches for the 3rd time in three years as they have only 24 points and sit 7th in the East.
Where have all the superstars gone? When you look at the top of the scoring charts 9 of the 10 players who finished atop the list in 2000/01 are not there at the quarterpole ( Patrik Elias is the only one). Injuries, contract problems and team turmoil have had a devastating impact on the League's top talent.
Washington problems Jagr is not the saviour, Kolzig is struggling, injuries have been devastating and Adam Oates still doesn't want to be there.
